(MYFoxBoston.com) -- Students and faculty got together Monday night to honor and remember the local teen killed in a terror attacks in Jerusalem.

Eighteen-year-old Ezra Schwartz died when a gunman started shooting into cars that were stuck in a traffic jam. He had nowhere to go.

Hundreds of loved ones and friends held a vigil Monday night at Brandeis University and the Patriots honored him as well.

Schwartz was killed Thursday in Israel along with four others during a terrorist attack in the West Bank. The 18-year old grew up in Sharon, went to high school there, and after he graduated he decided to go to Israel. At the time of the attack, we're told he was helping to deliver food to soldiers in Israel.

His funeral was Sunday and more than a thousand people showed up. And so many people said there, and then here again at the vigil Monday that he was just that kind of person, who wanted to help others and make a difference.

Just before the vigil started, FOX25 met one of the organizers of this event. She went to high school with Ezra and told FOX25 how she's read about the deaths overseas, but to know one of the victims really hit her differently.

Arianna Unger said, "To really emphasize that these attacks of innocent civilians are going on in Israel every single day and this is a major major problem."

FOX25 also spoke to several students who say even though they didn't know him, but still feel a connection to Schwartz.

His friend from summer camp, Yair Coas, said, "He was such a fun guy we would always messing around just like he was still was the one that wanted to experience things."

Another one of his friends said, "Wish the best for his family, if they need anything there is a huge community out here that is willing to support them anyway we can."
