Local HS senior on a mission to collect 25,000 pairs of shoes

MILLIS, Mass. — A teen in Millis is going above and beyond to help prevent people in developing countries from going barefoot.

Taylor White, a captain of the Millis High School track team, has partnered with Soles for Souls to collect 25,000 pairs of shoes by May.

"It's a privilege that I get to wear shoes every single day and it's definitely a privilege that I think I took for granted," she said.

Laura Conner, Taylor's track coach, introduced her to the idea.

“I just can see how hard she works in school and on the track. And I know that she'll reach her goal. She's very motivated," Conner said.

Only a few weeks in, Taylor has already collected about 1,000 pairs of shoes.

"You know we're doing out the numbers. as we go along. The math trying to figure out well how many do we need every single week... how many do we need every single month?" she said.
