JAMAICA PLAIN, Mass. — The country's oldest community theater located needs help replacing all of its seats.
It started when the
decided to bring Eliot Hall up to code. As part of that process, the old horse-hair and plaster wooden seats need to be replaced with new, more fire resistant chairs.
At $400 a seat and a pricetag of $200,000 for the whole project, the club needs a little help to get it all done.
"So we're looking for friends supporters, people in the community to hopefully help us raise this," said Maria Wardell, president.
The Footlight Club said the theater is safe, it just needs to be brought up to modern day standards.
Eliot Hall was built back in the 1830's and those seats were installed in the 1920's.
