IPSWICH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Three people escaped massive flames that broke out in Ipswich on Tuesday morning.

The three-alarm fire ravaged the two-and-a-half story building at 62 Central St., which is across from the Fire Department. Officials said the first floor of the building is a floor covering company. The family that owns the company lives in an apartment on the top floor.

A husband and wife and their teenage son made it out of the apartment. The husband was treated for smoke inhalation.

Officials say the family dog alerted the residents to the fire. The smoke detectors also went off.

Fire hydrants surrounding the building were buried from the weekend storm. Several roads were closed around the area while fire fighters battled the flames.
