Hold-open gas pump clips come to Mass.

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Bay Staters rejoice! Massachusetts drivers will now be able to take advantage of hold-open clips at gas stations.

Starting Jan. 1, gas stations will be able to put in clips that customers can use to hold the pump nozzle open while getting gas, according to Boston.com. If you use the clip while getting gas, you are able to get back in your car until your tank is full.

The clips have been banned in the Bay State since 1970, Boston.com reported. They were initially banned because officials were concerned that drivers could build up static electricity getting in and out of cars and create a spark, which could make for a bad situation near a gas pump.

However, given that most other states allow hold-open clips, Massachusetts has decided to jump on the band wagon.
