UMass Boston student delivering ‘period care kits’ for women with no access to feminine hygiene products during pandemic

BOSTON — Bria Gadsden is a woman on a mission.

The UMass Boston student has been delivering hundreds of “Period Care Kits” for women with little or no access to feminine hygiene products during the pandemic.

Gadsen says people who have lost jobs are struggling to afford the products they need, and women who are high risk for infection or under quarantine.

“It’s amazing,” said Gadsden. “And I didn’t realize how amazing it would be until a few days ago, I was delivering a care package and one young woman came outside and she was like, ‘Oh! So this is real!'"

Yasmine Jewell is in at high risk for infection and is grateful to Gadsden.

“For someone else to like understand that, it just means you’re not alone,” says Jewell. “And when she delivers these bags, it shows other women that they’re not alone and they have support.”

Tucked away in the $2 trillion coronavirus stimulus package is a provision allowing menstrual products to be covered under your health insurance.
