How do you schedule your kids’ COVID-19 vaccination appointment?

BOSTON — The 400,000 Massachusetts residents between 12-15 years old will now be eligible to get vaccinated at any location offering the Pfizer vaccine beginning Thursday.

But Moderna is not far behind. It is looking to get the same federal approval Pfizer received to vaccinate that same age group.

“The safety profile is like what we saw for the adults, and we are working with the FDA to get the vaccine authorized as soon as we can,” said Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel.

Moderna recently said preliminary results from its study in 12- to 17-year-olds show strong protection and no serious side effects, data the FDA will need to scrutinize.

While getting his first look inside the Moderna vaccine facility in Norwood, MA Gov. Charlie Baker urged parents to talk to their physicians about the Pfizer vaccine.

“I’m sure a lot of folks are going to reach out to their pediatricians and to their health care providers,” Gov. Baker said. “Some folks may go back to the places where they got their first vaccine for them as an adult to find out if there’s Pfizer available for their kids.”

Gov. Baker said the state has no plan now to require a COVID-19 vaccination for in-person learning. Meanwhile, we are now hearing from the Massachusetts Teachers Association.

A spokesperson said: “We strongly encourage the state to make vaccinating these students as easy as possible, especially in communities of color, in rural areas, and in any communities where vaccine access is challenging. Since many parents and children will have questions, enlisting pediatricians and trusted local clinics and hospitals in the effort would be ideal.”

Gov. Baker said the state will continue prioritizing the 20 hardest-hit communities.

“What we really wanted to make sure we get as many people who are

eligible to get vaccinated, to get them vaccinated in a way that’s convenient and accessible to everybody,” Gov. Baker said.

There are more than 900 vaccination locations statewide, but you’ll want to visit the state’s website to find a location that offers Pfizer near you.

If your child is pre-registered for Pfizer, you will be contacted to schedule an appointment. Remember parental or legal guardian consent is required. If you’re going to CVS, you are encouraged to schedule an appointment online, but walk-ins are also accepted at some locations.
