Boston-area based website offers Zoom chats with Santa Claus

NORTH POLE — Like many of us during Covid-19, Santa Claus is making a list of Zoom meetings. But he’s checking his twice.

“The funny thing is all the kids, they know how to use this technology. For me, I’ve been around for over 1,000 years, but it’s new to me, but these kids, they know exactly what to do for Zoom. It shocks me every time,” Santa Claus said.

Since the pandemic is preventing Santa from meeting boys and girls in-person at malls, he’s visiting them at their home, virtually, thanks to a website called Meet Santa On Zoom.

The website was founded in November by Boston-area friends Cory Pavitt and Dave and Jessy Place. So far, they have had more than 300 children from all over the United States visit Santa during live individual 5-minute virtual sessions. The sessions give parents the opportunity to spread some holiday cheer.

“So to kind of bring the magic right to their home and light up their kid’s faces, it’s priceless. I think Cory, Dave, and I were just so happy to be part of it,” Jessy Place said.

Santa Claus will be available for Zooms through Christmas Day, but not on Christmas Eve since he’ll be busy delivering presents to boys and girls all over the globe.

“The children are so excited, everyone at home is excited for Christmas, even the reindeer are starting to lift, lift off the ground right now because of the excitement and the cheer around the world, so it’s a very magical time,” Santa Claus said.

Each Zoom with Santa Claus starts at $25 and a portion of the money is being donated to Boston Children’s Hospital.
