(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – The family of the Winchester native killed in the 9/11 attacks in Libya honored the former Navy SEAL and launched a foundation in his honor on Saturday night.
Glen Doherty's family held a private event to remember their loved one, and also to launch a new foundation in his name. The foundation incorporates everything that made Glen special.
"Glen believed in working really hard and playing really hard and paying it forward," Glen's sister Kate Quigley told FOX 25's Heather Hegedus.
The Glen Doherty Foundation is a non-profit organization that will grant anything from an ultimate adventure to money for education. The foundation will benefit those who need a bit of encouragement to keep going.
"So it could be as simple as a family whose parents have been deployed overseas, it could be a family who has lost someone overseas, be it military or otherwise," Quigley said.
The foundation is rooted in two purposes that were important to Glen: adventure and education.
By living life to the fullest, Quigley said we can all pay tribute to Glen.
"He just took everything he could from every single day."
Quigley and other board members of the Glen Doherty Foundation are in the initial fundraising stages and have launched a website. To find out more about the foundation, visit www.glendoherty.org.
