Gas prices drop in New England

BOSTON — New England drivers rejoice!

Gas prices across the area have fallen in the past week, with GasBuddy showing the largest price drop of 3.9 cents per gallon in Vermont, averaging $2.46.

The latest survey shows gasoline prices in Boston have fallen 5.5 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.55 as of Sunday, Jan. 6. GasBuddy's daily survey of 1,058 gas stations in Boston compares with the national average that has fallen 3.0 cents per gallon as of last week.

Average gas prices on Jan. 7 have differed throughout the last five years: $2.56/g in 2018, $2.35/g in 2017, $2.00/g in 2016, $2.38/g in 2015 and $3.51/g in 2014.

Gas prices on Sunday were, on average, 1.1 cents per gallon lower than a year ago and 14.1 cents per gallon lower than a month ago. The national average has dropped 19.9 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 26.0 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

The price went down 3.6 cents per gallon in Maine, averaging $2.25, and 3.5 cents in New Hampshire, to $2.35.
