Fugitive python caught after biting person in Plymouth

PLYMOUTH (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – An 11-foot python that was loose in Plymouth has been caught.

Animal control experts corralled the reptile Tuesday afternoon. Officials said it bit a person in the area. That person was taken to a hospital as a precaution, but was expected to recover.
    
The snake's owner, Scott Mclaughlin, calls his pet Al. Mclaughlin tells FOX 25 that Al was in the back yard as he had been many times before, but on Sunday he slithered away. He was found less than 200 feet from his home.

Mclaughlin apologized on Tuesday for any inconvenience caused by the snake's escape. He also thanked Plymouth officials for helping to bring the 15-year-old python home.

Some residents were surprised they were not notified that a snake was on the loose.

Environmental police, who captured the reptile, say the public was never in any danger despite the bite. The police say it was a defensive snap from the 11-foot snake.

"They kill their prey by grabbing around it, suffocating it, and swallowing it whole," says one official.
