Freight train catches fire in Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Mass. — Delays were reported on the MBTA Commuter Rail’s Providence Line Tuesday morning after a freight train caught fire.

Mansfield police said they received word of the fire from Amtrak Police just after 4:30 a.m.

First responders arrived at the scene and found one of the car half-engulfed in flames.

Crews worked for hours to extinguish the flames and as a result the Providence Line was affected.

Traffic on the tracks has since resumed, but officials are warning of residual delays as a result.
