BOSTON — A FOX25 investigation into an illegal rooming house where sex offenders live in Dorchester is sparking change tonight.
Last week, FOX25's Bob Ward first reported about 96 Milton Ave. where seven Level 3 sex offenders are listed as living.
On Thursday, FOX25's John Monahan spoke with one of the residents, a Level 2 sex offender named Bill who said he was placed in the home by a non-profit called HomeStart that helps homeless people find housing.
Inspectional Services Department William Christopher told FOX25 the address is registered with the city as a 3-family home, not a boarding house with more than a dozen rooms.
"A violation for the illegal lodging house was filed against 96 Milton St. Dorchester. The owner was given 30 days to comply,” Christopher said.
The owner of the home, Kelvin Sanders, lives in Dorchester but did not answer when FOX25 knocked at his door.
HomeStart now tells FOX25 they are reviewing their policies to ensure the homes where people are placed comply with all local zoning laws.
"We're having to sort of review the contractual guidelines,” Executive Director Matthew Pritchard said.
