BOSTON – It’s been nearly five decades since Ted Kennedy escaped after a car crash on Martha’s Vineyard that killed his passenger, but a new movie is bringing the events of July 18, 1969 on Chappaquiddick back into the public eye.
The film, set for release in April, looks at the investigation into the deadly crash.
Sen. Kennedy didn’t report the crash for nearly 10 hours, which among other things caused a high-level of suspicion among many people.
The passenger, 28-year-old Mary Jo Kopechne, died in the vehicle and her body was recovered the next day when the car was removed.
The trailer for "Chappaquiddick" presents the incident as a suspense mystery.
