BOSTON — An alert for parents whose children play with fidget spinners.
A national watchdog group claims some of the spinners that have been on sale contain high levels of lead.
The group also claims those spinners are still available online and in stores.
The U.S. Public Interest Group said that when they tried to confront Target and its toy distributor about the issue, they did nothing.
Instead, they said the store and Bulls Toys claimed that fidget spinners are not technically
“children’s toys” because they are marked for customers 14+.
But USPIRG disputes that and calls them "toxic."
They said they twice tested the Fidget Wild Premium Spinner in metal and in brass, and found an alarming amount of lead in each.
That’s a concern because exposure to lead in small amounts could be particularly damaging to children’s brains.
