LOWELL — It's been nearly four months since a Lowell mother was murdered in front of her special needs son and the family is still waiting for answers.
FOX25 has been following this story since November, when Gloribel Orengo was beaten and killed by a group of people during a party.
Orengo's son says he watched a group of people beat and kill his mother in the parking lot of a Lowell apartment complex. But he doesn't understand why.
“I just want to be the voice for ab- because at 3 in the morning when he's crying out for his mother- how do you deal with something like that?” Orengo’s niece, Jasmine, told FOX25.
She says they're trying to be patient while the investigation unfolds, but says the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office and Lowell Police Department have given the family few answers -- including how Orengo died.
“When we asked for the autopsy, they tell us no, that they can't release it to us,” Jasmine said.
FOX25 contacted the medical examiner's office and a spokesperson told us there is no autopsy report because the case is still pending.
The Middlesex DA’s office has not determined a cause of death.
In November, we were there in court after police arrested 23-year-old Amirilies Huertas-Perez and charged her with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing seriously bodily harm.
Prosecutors said she admitted to hitting Orengo over the head with a full bottle of Hennessey.
They also said Oregeno was then run over.
So far, nobody else -- including the driver of that vehicle -- has been charged or arrested in the investigation.
“Someone has to pay,” said Jasmine. “These people can't just get away with this.”
Jasmine says while she understands the investigation will take time, but with little communication, the family feels forgotten.
