FAA to investigate deadly plane crash in Connecticut

PLAINVILLE, Conn. — A pilot was killed when his small plane crashed in a landfill near a Connecticut airport.

Plainville police said the pilot was the only person on board when the plane went down around 10:30 a.m on Thursday near Robertson Airport.

Police said he died on impact.

"People say the plane flying low," said Lt. Nicholas Mullins.

He said the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were notified and are taking over the investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

He said it was difficult for emergency crews to reach the plane as it was in the landfill and also near a nature reserve.

The pilot's name has not been released.

Plainville is southwest of Hartford.
