EVERETT, Mass. — An Everett Police officer was arrested on domestic violence charges after a confrontation involving his girlfriend, police say.
Everett Police officers were dispatched to an address on Elm Street on Sunday morning for reports of a domestic assault, where they had to arrest one of their own.
According to Evertt Police Chief Steven Mazzie, Officer Dino D’Andrea, who was off-duty at the time of the incident, has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation into his conduct.
Court documents show it’s still unclear who the aggressor was in this case since D’Andrea’s girlfriend was also arrested for assault and battery. D’Andrea is being charged with both domestic assault and battery and intimidation of a witness.
His girlfriend told police D’Andrea had “assaulted her, giving her a bloody lip," but D’Andrea reported he was assaulted by her as well, saying she “became irate and physically attacked him while he was driving her home.”
Responding officers said they noticed D’Andrea had a small lump on his forehead and a ripped shirt. Both he and his girlfriend had scratches on their bodies. They were placed in separate custody during the arrest.
The Middlesex DA’s office is now handling the case.
D’Andrea has been with the police force for eight and a half years.
