Evacuations continue, fires burning 13 million acres in Australia

AUSTRALIA — Evacuations continue in Australia as the country’s Navy works to get thousands of people to safety and away from the raging wildfires.

Flames are now burning 13 million acres, which is more than twice the size of Connecticut.

Temperatures are expected to top 100 degrees today, which will make it tough for firefighters to keep up with containing the flames.

Officials say it’s incredibly crucial to get all residents and tourists out. Rain is expected in the areas affected by the wildfires by next week.

So far, 23 people have died and more than 1,500 homes have been destroyed.

If you want to help in disaster relief efforts and donate, the Australian Red Cross has information.
