LOS ANGELES, Calif. — A class-action lawsuit has been filed against popular beauty product EOS lip balm,

Rachael Cronin, represented by criminal defense lawyer Mark Geragos, claims the product gave her multiple rashes and caused her mouth to crack and bleed.

The suit says that "(Ms. Cronin's) lips became substantially dry and coarse, what Ms. Cronin describes as feeling like 'sandpaper,' causing her to apply more of the balm on her lip to achieve the results of becoming 'sensationally smooth.'"

"By the next day, Ms. Cronin's lips and surrounding skin area had severe  blistering and rashes causing her to seek medical care."

The suit, which is "on behalf of (Cronin) herself and the putative class comprised of potentially hundreds of thousands of similarly situated consumers," says Cronin dealt with the skin reaction for 10 days.

It also claims that EOS brands itself as "healthy, as a cure for celebrity problems, and as a travel companion" in viral campaigns that feature celebrities like Britney Spears and Kim Kardashian.

The suit also includes images of other users of the lip balm who have had reactions to the product.

Cronin is seeking damages and corrective advertising in the lawsuit.

EOS has since responded on its Twitter and Facebook pages, in addition to releasing a statement.

"We firmly believe this lawsuit is without merit," a representative for Evolution Of Smooth products said. "Our products are made with the highest quality ingredients and meet or exceed all safety and quality standards set out by our industry and validated by rigorous testing conducted by an independent lab. The health and well-being of our customers is our top priority and millions of satisfied customers use our products every day, many of whom take the time to share their experiences with us."
