Four varieties of Duncan Hines cakes mixes have been recalled due to salmonella concerns.
Conagra Brands is voluntarily recalling the following varieties of Duncan Hines cake mix: Classic White, Classic Butter Golden, Signature Confetti and Classic Yellow.
A sample of the Classic White tested positive for salmonella, which may be linked to an outbreak being investigated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Conagra has decided to voluntarily recall the Classic White cake mix and three other varieties made during the same time period: Classic Butter Golden, Signature Confetti and Classic Yellow.
So far, five people have reported falling ill with salmonella after eating cake mix.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes deadly infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
