Drugmaker's Waltham facility likely hit by job cuts

WALTHAM, Mass. — A global biopharmaceutical company, with a facility in Waltham, announced 160 job cuts on Wednesday in an effort to lower expenses.

A spokesperson for Alkermes told Boston 25 News the majority of the cost savings announced were in Research & Development and General & Administrative, which functions are largely out of the Waltham facility.

The spokesperson said the drugmaker hasn't disclosed specific numbers by location.

Alkermes is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland with facilities in County Westmeath, Ireland, Waltham, Massachusetts and Wilmington, Ohio.
