(MyFoxBoston.com) -- A defense attorney for the Irish nanny accused of killing a baby in her care is now taking aim at a local doctor who was also involved in the Justina Pelletier case.
Aisling Brady McCarthy is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Rehma Sabir. The baby was taken to Boston Children's Hospital in January of last year and died two days later.
According to the Boston Globe, her defense says a team of doctors led by Alice Newton did not look at the baby's history of medical problems.. And did not consider a lack of external evidence of abuse before alerting police. The defense says Dr. newton was also the physician whose abuse diagnosis led to the long standoff between the parents of Justina Pelletier and social workers in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Pelletier has since been returned to her family.
Dr. Newton did not comment on the defense motion.
