BOSTON — After a legendary career came to a close this season, David Ortiz wrote his final ‘Thank You’ to Boston and its fans Monday.
The Red Sox slugger dropped the note Monday in the pages of the Players’ Tribune, writing about his career, what’s next and his love for Boston.
Big Papi hung up his cleats this season and his letter is about looking back at what Boston did for him.
“Everybody knows ‘Big Papi’ now, but when I came into that Fenway locker room in 2003, I was desperate. For real.” Papi writes.
He attributes his success in Boston to Pedro Martinez and Manny Ramirez and explains what he’ll remember from his days in Fenway.
He recalls the day he uttered his famous words after the Boston Marathon bombing and how somebody from the Red Sox grabbed him and said, “Papi, go say something.”
In true Papi style, he signs off by offering Boston a “big (expletive) hug.”
