Dartmouth police want you to know they 'aren't clowning around'

DARTMOUTH, Mass. — Dartmouth police want you to know they aren't "clowning around" when it comes to clown scares.

Clowns have communities across the country on high alert as dressing like a clown and scaring people has apparently become a new craze.

Police have been taking threats seriously and are investigating any incident involving creepy clowns, but some are finally saying enough is enough.

In a new YouTube video published Tuesday, the Dartmouth Police Department in Mass. is calling out anyone who tries to dress as a creepy clown and scare people. They say they "aren't clowning around" and "if you want to act like a clown, we have no problem treating you like one."

In the video, which is a bit silly, a clown is confronted by a Dartmouth police officer. He doesn't want to cooperate, which prompts officers to pour out of the cruiser like it's a clown car.

Dartmouth police say they're taking a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to "the recent clown scare, which is plaguing the nation."
