WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - A Leominster man has pleaded not guilty to murder and related charges in what authorities believe was a drug-related killing in Fitchburg.
Twenty-eight-year-old Andrew Mathieu was arraigned Tuesday in Worcester Superior Court and held without bail in the May 12 shooting of Roy Rivera.
The Telegram & Gazette reports the charges against Mathieu also include firearms violations and child endangerment. Prosecutors say Mathieu's 7-year-old child was in his car when he shot Rivera, and that Mathieu had stored firearms in the child's closet.
Rivera was found slumped over the steering wheel of his car. Police believe he was shot several blocks away outside the car and managed to drive a short distance.
Three people are facing accessory charges in the case, and a fourth is facing charges of firearms and receiving stolen property.
