Crews battle fire at Lowell mill; no injuries reported

LOWELL, Mass. — Crews in Lowell rushed to extinguish a fire that broke out inside a mill Friday afternoon.

The incident was reported on Tanner Street.

Fire officials tell Boston 25 News that the building had been boarded up, and that made it extremely difficult for crews to get hoses inside.

"We had to use ground ladders, and it was pretty difficult to rip the boards off the windows," Chief Jeffrey Winward said. "It used to be a baseball practice facility, so they put these big plastic things on the windows."

Crews were able to eventually tackle the flames from the inside and put the fire out.

Luckily, no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
