CHELSEA, Mass. — High school students in Chelsea will have a four-day weekend as the school works with exterminators to eliminate a pest problem.
In a release sent out Wednesday, Superintendent Mary Bourque said complaints of flies started Dec. 5 in the kitchen area of Chelsea High School.
A drain cleaning contractor and an exterminator was also called to find out how the flies were entering the building, but the problem was not solved.
“You never know what kind of disease, they come from the sewer,” Daniel Valdes Sr., a parent, said.
On Tuesday, a plumbing contractor opened up walls to investigate the source of the flies, but Bourque said that only created more access points for flies to get into the building.
The inspection is set to continue Thursday and Friday, during which time the school will be closed.
