Cambridge family working to rebuild after fire ravages pizza shop

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- An early morning fire broke out at two businesses in Cambridge on Broadway Wednesday, and it had business owners wondering how they will cover all of their holiday catering orders, and beyond.

The fire began at around 3:15 a.m., destroying two businesses around 228 Broadway, but not injuring any people. Upon arrival, firefighters dealt with the two-alarm fire by opening up the roof. A substantial part of the fire came through the opening in the roof, the Cambridge Fire Department assistant chief said, and then all firefighters were pulled off the roof.

Investigators were still on the scene early Wednesday afternoon, and initial findings show the fire appears to have started in the kitchen area of Mulan Restaurant.

"They're not going to be open for business anytime soon," said Cambridge Fire Department Assistant Chief Gerry Mahoney.

Ned and Neshatt Michael, the owners of Beauty's Pizza, the adjacent business that was also damaged in the fire, said they are devastated about the fire and hope to re-open in a few months.

"We have a lot of advanced orders for today," Neshatt said.

"We have to call everyone and let them know we cannot and I'm sorry."

Ned and Neshatt said it doesn't seem like the fire damaged their kitchen, but the damage is estimated to be about $100,000.
