NORWOOD, Mass. — >> READ MORE: Norwood Police investigating stolen Boy Scouts trailer
A U-Haul field manager and Norwood police told FOX25 U-Haul recovered the trailer in the parking lot of First Congregational Church on Winter Street in Norwood last week.
Troop 42 Scoutmaster Tom McClintock later reported it stolen to police.
The trailer, painted distinctively with Boy Scouts markings, had been used on camping trips after it was donated to the troop years ago, McClintock said. The donor was unaware the trailer had been stolen, he said.
The U-Haul field manager told FOX25 that a company employee approached the troop this summer and informed them that the trailer was stolen, before making another attempt to contact the troop and recover the trailer.
McClintock told FOX25 he hopes to buy the trailer from U-Haul.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to purchase the trailer.
The Norwood Police Department issued the following statement on their Facebook page:
The Boy Scouts of America Troop 42 trailer we advertised as stolen yesterday has been located. Please see the following statement from Scoutmaster McClintock of Troop 42.
“Through a series of transactions starting in 1997 it appears the troop was gifted a missing U-Haul trailer. For lack of communication, the trailer “recovered” by U-Haul was deemed missing without permission from the church parking lot. The troop is in communication with U-Haul hoping to negotiate buying-back the trailer.”
Scoutmaster McClintock, as well as all of us here at NPD, is thankful for media coverage which ultimately lead to the whereabouts of the trailer. We’re hoping for the best possible outcome for Troop 42!
