Boston women launch city’s first Haitian food truck

BOSTON — Nathalie Lecorps and Karyn Glemaud busily preparing for the lunch rush. The cousins just launched a brand new food truck in Boston.

It’s called Gourmet Kreyol. They say they’re the only ones in the city serving Haitian food.

“We’re happy to be first to do it and we’re so excited because Boston is the third-largest Haitian community in America,” Glemaud said.

Glemaud is a Boston native. Lecorps is from Miami but moved to Boston in 2018.

Both are of Haitian descent. Their parents were born and raised in Haiti. The name of the truck is named after Lecorp’s parent’s restaurant which they owned in Miami for 22 years. She said the food truck serves an important role.

According to the City of Boston, Haitians make up the second-largest share of immigrants in Boston.

“I feel like especially for the Haitian community, the Haitian-Americans here in Boston, I feel like they have a place where they can go and get food in this trucking industry so I’m very happy to be able to service my community and every community who’s looking to try to do something new and unique,” Lecorps said.

The truck serves traditional Haitian dishes such as legume, griot, and chicken, both fried and stewed. Gourmet Kreyol operates two days a week, Thursdays and Fridays. They’re open from 11 am until 3 pm on both days.

Thursday’s food truck is located at Green Street in Jamaica Plain and on Friday’s it is outside the Boston Medical Center on Harrison Avenue.
