Taylor Farms recalls lettuce products distributed in Massachusetts amid Cyclospora outbreak

Central Florida cyclospora cases climb as federal investigators trace outbreak

MASSACHUSETTS — Taylor Farms is recalling various iceberg lettuce products after being contaminated with Cyclospora.

The recall involves a variety of shredded lettuce, lettuce blends, and salad mix products distributed in more than two dozen states, including Massachusetts, between June 29 and July 16, according to the company.

Taylor Farms said in a statement that it is voluntarily removing all iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico from the U.S. market after information provided by the Food and Drug Administration as part of an ongoing Cyclospora outbreak investigation.

As a family-owned company, we are deeply concerned for those who became ill, their families, and the Americans whose trust in the safety of fresh produce has been shaken.

Based on information provided yesterday by the FDA, Taylor Farms de Mexico is voluntarily removing all iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico from the U.S. market.

While the FDA traceback is indicating a specific independent farm that represents less than 1% of the U.S.’s iceberg lettuce supply as the potential source of the outbreak, we have removed all iceberg lettuce from the region indefinitely.

No Taylor Farms-branded salads or kits are associated with this outbreak.

No Taylor Farms-branded salad kits contain iceberg lettuce.

We are committed to doing everything in our power to address this issue, support the ongoing investigation, and help restore trust.

Cyclospora is a parasite that can cause symptoms including diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, bloating, fatigue, weight loss, and loss of appetite.

The company said it has stopped receiving product from the implicated lot, suspended distribution of iceberg lettuce from central Mexico, and notified customers while working with health officials.
