Boston seniors get college scholarship surprise

BOSTON — Two Boston high school seniors celebrated a big surprise Monday, when they learned they had won four-year college scholarships

The awards are through Scholar Athletes, a statewide non-profit.

The student athletes applied for their opportunity and learned Monday their applications stood apart from the rest.

Rose Dina Blanc will attend Curry College, while Ann Merullo is off to Regis. Both thanked their schools for supporting them and their parents for inspiring them.

"Don’t give up on yourself, even when it gets tough, because if you keep pushing, good things are going to happen to you," Merullo said in her thank you speech.

Both students plan to study nursing when they start their college careers this fall.

"Seek out for support because there are people here to help you because that’s what school is for," Blanc said. "Don’t ever think you’re alone.”
