Boston police arrest man for selling counterfeit Patriots tickets

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Boston Police are warning sports fans and concert attendees to be on the lookout for scams after they arrested a man for selling fake tickets.

Police say a father spent hundreds of dollars on tickets he found on Craigslist to bring his special needs son to a Patriots game earlier this month.

The tickets turned out to be counterfeit.

In the following weeks BPD was able to find the same seller offering tickets to another Patriots game. They purchased four tickets for $700 and after determining they were fake arrested 21-year-old Shamorie Washington of New York.

Police say the best way for fans to ensure their tickets are legit is to go through an authorized ticket company instead of a secondary source like Craigslist or eBay.

“Purchasing via other means creates the potential for possessing either an invalid or counterfeit ticket,” they said in a release.

Anyone with information about ticket scammers can report it anonymously by calling the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1 (800) 494-TIPS or texting the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463).
