Body recovered from Charles identified as Northeastern student

Massachusetts State Police confirmed that a body recovered from the Charles River belongs to a missing Northeastern Student.

Dennis Njoroge was last seen Thanksgiving weekend playing basketball at Northeastern. His family, Northeastern students and law enforcement officials worked to search for Njoroge, but there were few leads.

On Dec. 31, a body was found in the Charles River. Forensic testing identified the body as Njoroge. Police said there were no outward signs of trauma and they do not believe the death was suspicious.

Northeastern University said that Njoroge was born in Kenya and graduated high school in Worcester.

"Over the holidays, we continued to hope for Dennis's safe return, even as we felt his absence. He will be missed greatly," said Northeastern President Joseph Aoun.

Aoun also thanked everyone who helped search for Njoroge.
