Bellingham teacher facing charges after allegedly recording student in bathroom

A Bellingham Memorial Middle School teacher is facing charges after allegations that he recorded a student in a bathroom, according to the Bellingham Superintendent of Schools.

Scott McDonald is facing two felony charges for possession of illicit images of a minor, and was placed on paid administrative leave on November 9 after an allegation against him from a student.

Bellingham Superintendent of Schools Peter Marano said McDonald was immediately removed from the classroom once the allegation was made.

"As an educator and a parent I am absolutely appalled anytime a teacher violates the awesome trust and responsibility given to teachers by the parents of the children placed in our care on a daily basis," Marano said in a statement. "We will not tolerate any behavior by any member of the staff or faculty of our school district that violates that trust.

Boston 25 News reported last week that McDonald had been put on leave after allegedly telling a student to use a faculty bathroom instead of a student bathroom.

Marano said the school will provide mental health counselors at the school for students, parents and stuff, with mental health resources continuing to be available at both the middle school and high school after the holiday.
