LAWRENCE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – FOX25 has teamed up with Donors Choose to help make sure teachers who've asked for a little extra help this year get what they need to go back to school.
Daniel Miller went to East Elementary School in South Lawrence to surprise a 4th grade teacher Lindsey Kelly, who is starting her first year at the school.
Ms. Kelly is one of hundreds of teachers who signed up on donorschoose.org requesting tools and supplies to help teach their students.
She needed permanent markers, book bins, and Post-it easel paper for anchor charts and even a stapler.
Dozens of people donated to help including FOX25.
“When I went online last night and saw that this was funded 100% I was blown away. I could not believe it. It just takes so much stress off. I'm just so happy. I appreciate it. Thank you,” Ms. Kelly said.
Ms. Kelly says the materials will help create a solid base of supplies for her classroom.
She also says the donations will help take away the financial burden and help students with their daily tasks.
Marisa Boyajian has been the principal at South Lawrence East for 3 years. She told FOX25 the support could not have come at an important time.
"The supports outside of education who've come in to make sure that our students and our community are well taken care of. Our students are being nurtured and educated to the point where they are productive members of the community as well has been overwhelming," Boyajian said.
FOX25 News is joining the support for teachers in need. From Aug. 31 until Sept. 11, FOX25 is surprising teachers who have posted their needs through DonorsChoose. We hope you will also consider donating to teachers in need by visiting http://www.donorschoose.org.
