Another mountain lion sighting reported in Winchester

WINCHESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A second mountain lion sighting was reported in Winchester, after the initial sighting was reported last month.

On Feb. 28, Winchester police reported that a resident saw a mountain lion in town. On Thursday, police announced that they received another report of a sighting 10 days after the first.

Our Bob Ward spoke with the woman who said she saw the animal on March 9.

"It was just a beautiful animal and I saw it very clearly, very clearly," she said.

She went on to say that his head was round and that he didn't have a snout. She is convinced that it was not a dog.

A photograph of the paw print was sent to several independent mountain lion organizations, officials say. The experts from those organizations have "conclusively stated that the paw print belongs to a mountain lion."

Krista Selmi, spokesperson for Energy & Environmental Affairs, believes that the tracks are from a coyote or dog.

"OK, so, we stand by our contention that this is absolutely not a mountain lion," she said. "We have sent the photos to several out-of-state experts, including a western mountain lion biologist, and all the feedback we have received is supportive of our original interpretation that these tracks were made by a coyote or dog."

Winchester police are urging residents to be mindful that a mountain lion may be lurking in town.
