Amazon to break ground on new Seaport office building

BOSTON — Amazon is set to break ground Tuesday on new office space in the Seaport.

The new building at 111 Harbor Way won't be completed for a couple of years but it will mean thousands in jobs for the area. Last year, Amazon said it would expand its tech hub in Boston, adding about 2,000 technology jobs in fields like speech science, robotics engineering and machine learning. The teams based in Boston will focus on Alexa, Amazon Web Services and Audible.

The 17-story building's design is expected to blend with the current industrial-look of the Seaport and will include outdoor terraces on several floors, an underground parking garage and two floors devoted to restaurants and retail.

Governor Charlie Baker and Mayor Marty Walsh are expected at Tuesday's groundbreaking.
