Alleged 'Tree Ninja' arrested in Brighton

BOSTON — Boston Police Detectives have arrested a man they believe is responsible for half a dozen acts of vandalism in Brighton.

According to BPD, Joe Rizza, also known as the “Tree Ninja”, was arrested Monday night on Peaceable Street after allegedly damaging a tree on private property by snapping a branch off with his hands.

Rizza, 66, was out on bail for a similar case he was arrested for in April. That arrest included surveillance video of alleged tree and shrub vandalism near the Brighton Elks Club.

Several other recent complaints of tree damage have been reported in the area of Winship Street and Academy Hill Road.
