71 dachshunds rescued from Westminster home up for adoption

(MyFoxBoston.com) -- The dozens of dogs rescued from a Westminster home on Jan. 6 are up for up adoption.

The 71 dachshunds were discovered in very poor condition in the home on Harrington Road. According to the MSPCA, some were living in filthy conditions, while others were stuck outside in the cold. Two goats were also taken from the property.

The MSPCA took custody of the dachshunds and say that, after assessing the medical and behavioral needs of each dog, they will soon be ready to be adopted into new families.

Due to the large outpouring of support and the number of people interested in adopting, applications for adoption will be available and accepted in person on Thursday during open hours. Applicants will then be interviewed by the adoption center staff. Determine of eligibility will be made after all applicants have been reviewed.

The MSPCA wanted to remind interested applicants that the dogs come from a very different environment than a regular home and that they were housed in large groups, which may make the transitional period challenging. Each dog may also need help with housebreaking and adjusting to the normal life of a dog.
