(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Thursday marks 50 years since the first victim of the Boston Strangler was discovered murdered in her Back Bay apartment. Doubt continues to this day about whether the killer was ever caught.
It was June 14, 1962, when the body of Anna Slesers was found. She was strangled with the sash of her bathrobe. Twelve murders would follow over the next two years.
Albert DeSalvo confessed to the murders, but was never convicted. He was stabbed to death in his jail cell awaiting trial in 1973.
Many question DeSalvo's guilt. DNA evidence from the last supposed Boston Strangler victim, exhumed in 2001, did not match DeSalvo's.
