BOSTON — A local fisherman caught we he says is the catch of a lifetime this weekend on the Charles River in Boston.
John Field from GetBentTV.com was fishing near Storrow Drive on Saturday when he brought in the 26-pound carp around 7 a.m.
“The Charles River is thriving with life and we feel it really says something about the efforts taken by the city to clean up and restore the river. Well done Boston,” Field said.
The Mass. Division of Fisheries & Wildlife said this fish is big, but not uncommon in the Charles. The state record for carp weighed 46 pounds and was caught in Lake Quinsigamond in 2012.
In June Fish & Wildlife is have a statewide free fishing weekend on June 4 and 5 when no license is required for freshwater fishing.
Field said that after weighing his big carp he released it back into the river.
