WHITINSVILLE, Mass. — Two young women died in an early morning duplex fire in Whitinsville Saturday.
A duplex on Border Street caught fire around 3 a.m., according to local officials. Neighbors said the house went up like a tinderbox, and in a matter of minutes, it was fully engulfed.
A neighbor said that he saw the house go up in flames and tried to get one of the women out, but he couldn't reach her. He heard her screams for about two minutes until it turned to silence.
Friends of the victims still in shock Saturday afternoon, remembering the young women that died. They said the victims were Jordan Fotaine and Nicole Lavallee.
"Great person, great amazing laugh, great smile. Can’t replace her," said Bekky Costa.
Friends of Nicole said the 22-year-old and her girlfriend had been living in the home with two other young women, who weren't home at the time of the fire.
The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze. Friends told FOX25 they heard the house had no smoke detectors.
A GoFundMe has been started for the other two residents of the home.
