WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — One person is dead and five others were seriously injured when an SUV crashed on the Massachusetts Turnpike early Saturday morning.
The vehicle was headed west near Westborough when the 20-year-old man driving apparently lost control and hit a rock ledge off the right side of the road.
Police say the driver and three other were thrown from the vehicle and landed in the road.
A 26-year-old woman from Spencer was thrown into the roadway, then hit by several passing vehicles and was pronounced dead on scene, according to police.
The other five people in the car included an 18-year-old woman, a 21-year-old man, a 35-year-old man and a 36-year-old man; they were all taken to UMass Worcester Medical Center with serious injuries.
State police are investigating the cause of the crash.
The victims have not been identified.
