BLANDFORD, Mass. — One person was killed and four others were injured in a crash involving two tractor-trailers on the Mass. Pike in Blandford.
State Police said the crash happened at around 2:40 a.m. on Thursday, when a wintry mix moving in the area made for slick road conditions and limited visibility.

Officials say a tandem tractor-trailer traveling eastbound on the Pike lost control, causing it to crash with another tractor-trailer, a box truck, and a pickup.

Four people were transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Police say the driver of the box truck, 41-year-old Robert Epps of Bronx, New York, was pronounced dead.

I-90 eastbound was closed for hours after the crash and traffic was diverted at exit 2. Around 7:30 a.m. MSP tweeted that the left lane had reopened.

At 8:30, the scene had been cleared and all lanes were re-opened.

A 40 mph speed reduction was in effect at the time of the crash, prohibiting tandem or propane trucks from traveling along I-90 from the New York border to the 57-mile marker in Wilbraham.

Police say the crash is still under investigation.
