'We got him': The call Maribel Collazo had been waiting for from Boston Police

BOSTON — Maribel Collazo had waited nearly four years to get a certain call from the Boston Police Department.

The department finally delivered the news that Freidy Baez had been arrested and will soon will face charges for the murder of Maribel's husband, George Sanchez.

Maribel said she never doubted this day would come.

“I never lost faith because the detectives in the case always gave me that faith,” she said. “And they always told me from the beginning, they told me, we're going to get him Maribel; and they did.”

Just after midnight, September 21, 2014, George Sanchez was fatally stabbed outside on Ames Street.

There was some kind of fight and then the stabbing. Witnesses identified the attacker as Freidy Baez.

“I never seen him a day in the life. Never saw him,” Maribel said.

Authorities say Freidy Baez disappeared immediately after the murder. But by the end of 2014, an arrest warrant, alleging murder, was issued for Freidy Baez in Dorchester District Court.

For almost four years, Maribel, her five children and 10 grandchildren, anxiously waited for justice.

And now, Maribel says justice appears close.

“A little bit of peace. We can never bring him back. We are always going to miss him, but we are going to have that peace in our heart,” Maribel said.
