EXTREME HEAT & HUMIDITY
It’s another steamy start to the day, and the heat will become dangerous this afternoon. High temperatures will soar to around 100° in Boston, marking the city’s first official heat wave of the season. Add in the tropical humidity, and it will feel more like 105 to 110 degrees during the hottest part of the day. An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through 8 PM Saturday, so take it easy in the heat!
While much of today will be dry, we’ll be watching for a few isolated thunderstorms developing late this afternoon into this evening. Most communities won’t see a storm, but any that do form could become strong, producing damaging wind gusts, torrential downpours, and frequent lightning.
The heat sticks around for Independence Day, although temperatures will ease back slightly into the mid 90s. It’ll still feel much hotter thanks to the humidity, so if you’re heading to parades, cookouts, or the beach, be sure to pace yourself and drink plenty of water. A few afternoon and early evening thunderstorms are possible once again. While an isolated storm could produce strong wind gusts and heavy rain, the overall severe weather threat looks a bit lower than Friday.
The good news for holiday plans is that any showers and storms should diminish during the evening, and it currently looks like skies will clear in time for most Fourth of July fireworks displays.
RELIEF ON THE WAY
By Sunday, the extreme heat finally breaks. Sunshine returns with much lower humidity and afternoon highs in the 80s, making it a fantastic day to get outside and enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend.
