San Antonio, TX — The NBA season is barely halfway over, but there is already a winner (or is it loser?) in the worst injury of the year department.
Spurs guard Manu Ginobili will be out for at least a month after surgery for a testicle injury he suffered during the team's win over New Orleans earlier this week. Pelicans forward Ryan Anderson had his back turned to Ginobili as he was working toward the basket when he spun quickly and struck the 38-year-old guard squarely in the groin with his right knee.
Ginobili dropped to the floor in pain as he was walking to the locker room, and he'll now miss 4-6 weeks as he recovers from surgery.
In Ginobili's 14 NBA seasons, he's suffered a long list of injuries. From back spasms, to broken bones in his ribs, forearm, and hand, to a torn ankle ligament, and a hamstring tear, Ginobili has seemingly always been banged up. However, it's hard to imagine any of those injuries stacking up to this recent setback. Ouch.
