Patriots release Jordan Matthews

FOXBORO — Jordan Matthews, who was poised to get an opportunity to contribute in the Patriots revamped offense, was released Wednesday after suffering a hamstring injury over the weekend.

The Patriots deemed the injury serious enough to warrant the release and didn't hesitate to make the move. Reports also circulated on Tuesday that the Patriots had worked out veteran wide receiver Eric Decker, but no move has been made to add him to the roster.

Matthews played last season with the Buffalo Bills, appearing in 10 games and making only 25 catches for 282 yards and one touchdown.

Previously, Matthews played three seasons in Philadelphia, eclipsing more than 800 yards receiving in each of those seasons.
